What is a (birth) doula?

Doula

The word "Doula" is derived from Greek and means "woman who serves." She serves the birth process with her profound knowledge of "the tissue and the water."

A doula is a trained non-medical professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to someone during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. She does not give medical care like midwives or doctors, but instead focuses on helping the birthing person feel comfortable, confident, and empowered throughout the process. Doulas offer guidance, reassurance, and help with relaxation techniques. They can also provide valuable support to the family, helping everyone feel informed and cared for during this major life event.

Personal approach

A doula journey is always tailor-made because each pregnant person and their partner have their own desires and wishes. I adjust myself and the process as best as possible to meet these.

As soon as you're considering a doula and want to learn more about it, feel free to message me or give me a call. We can have an initial conversation and potentially schedule a personal get-to-know meeting. During this intake meeting, you can decide if you feel comfortable with me to potentially have me support you during your birth. If you choose to work with me, you'll receive a contract with all necessary information. After that, the support begins with typically two to three pre-natal meetings, an on-call period around your expected birth date, and two post-partum meetings.
